Florida has officially become the fifth largest solar state in the United States with 8.5 GW of installed capacity, surpassing Massachusetts and New Jersey. The rapid growth has been driven by utility-scale solar development, residential rooftop installations, and community solar programs. Solar now represents 4.2% of Florida's electricity supply, up from <1% five years ago. Continued growth is expected as major utilities retire fossil fuel generation and Florida's solar development pipeline includes additional 15 GW under development or in permitting.
